A luminous period family house by the sea

Edwardian period semi-detached family house by the sea house for sale

For Sale: A beautiful house with artistic touches

The house has one unique feature that makes an immediate impact on anyone who passes: a beautiful custom designed stained glass window in the front door. The two panes feature key landmarks of Herne Bay and North Kent, including Reculver Towers, King’s Hall auditorium, and the town’s clocktower.

At night, with the light on, it projects a wonderful image into the street, and in the mornings, when the sun shines on the front of the house, it paints the hall and stairway in bright colours.

The window was designed and installed by a previous resident of the house, Dave Baxter, who was a cartoonist for the national press. Here is a clipping of a story about his career, in which he’s pictured in front of the house. The window is just visible behind him.

Herne Bay has a longstanding connection with the arts and especially with cartoonists. It hosts an annual cartoon festival in which cartoonists of international standing come to draw in large scale in public on the pier. Associated exhibitions take place at galleries, such as beach creative, throughout the town.
